What's happened to our world today
something's really gone astray
What happened to the good life that we knew
Where neighbors loved and didn't hate
They'd help each other bear the weight
They'd stand together rain or shine
to see each other through

When beans and cornbread filled our plates
home and family weren't second rate
When young folks wed and really meant I do
When children had one Mom and Dad
Couples stuck through good and bad
They'd start and end every day
by saying I love you
How did we lose it where's it gone
the love of family and God and home
We build a life on things we own
clothes and cars are man made gold
Instead of holding on to treasures true
Take heed my friend its not too late
do it now don't hesitate
Let's live our lives everyday
the way God meant us to
