There is a debate in Christian circles as to whether there will be a third great awakening or not before the return of the Lord Jesus. Some people believe that we are already in such a third great awakening or revival.
There is also the issue of what impact such an awakening or revival will have in the political realm. As we know, the political realm will give power to the beast (or antichrist) at the end of the Age Of Grace precipitating the return of Christ Jesus.
If the awakening that is hoped for is more than just a ripple on the lake it could usher in a period of healing around the world pushing forward in time the cataclysmic events foretold in the book of Revelation.
It is this possibility that prompted me to respond to a fellow believer's fatalistic view of our current circumstances with respect to prophecy. Below is my response to him.
The details of our Creator's plan have been worked out in partnership with mankind. The gift of free-will made it impossible for Him to cleanly accomplish His will. His will being that we become His children by faith, admiring Him, desiring Him and conforming to Him.
So, men are born and die with some receiving Christ and others rejecting Him. Is there a specific number of redeemed the Lord is desiring? I don't know. But, Jesus did not know when He would return. If He had a detailed plan, He would have known that.
The circumstances that will lead up to the Lord's return are not under His control, they are under man's control. In one place He gives an indication of the circumstances that will precipitate His return So, it appears that the direness of man's circumstances are a factor as to when our Lord will act precipitously to end the age. From that I conclude that the Body's growth and strength in the earth would forestall His return.
After all, Jesus came that we could experience abundant life In a world where despots are brought down as quickly as they show their colors (as believers would do in a theocratical world order) all men would be able to experience the abundant life of relationship with Him and prosperity in the earth through His blessings.
If you look at the nature of the Millennial Kingdom, we see Christ Jesus on the throne of David implementing exactly what He expected us to do after we had covered the earth with the Gospel and took dominion over the rebellious and unbelieving. Looking back into Genesis we see the Lord expecting Adam to dominate the earth as His ambassador/partner.
So, dominionism was initiated by our Creator. And Jesus is our Creator.
Satan has convinced Christians to turn over dominion to Him in the same fashion he did to Adam and Eve. Therefore, once again, Christ Jesus must come physically to the earth to straighten out the mess that those whom He gave dominion and responsibility to have allowed to happen.
The fact that the Lord can see the end from the beginning makes it appear, when He speaks, that He MAKES things happen. The Lord knows what will happen because He is outside of TIME and He can tell us what will happen because of His omniscience. The Lord does not MAKE things happen unless it is under His authority. He doesn't play games with us, giving us authority and taking it away when we don't use it correctly.
The fundamental question that any Extreme Sovereignty adherent must answer is this: "Is the Lord responsible for what is going on in the earth?"
There is no way for our Creator to be Holy, Righteous, Loving, Just and Perfect if the answer to that question is 'yes'.
I know that He is Holy, Righteous, Loving, Just and Perfect in all His ways.
So, I take responsibility for my own actions, and I place responsibility on others for their actions, and I place responsibility on the Church for its lack of action, and I place responsibility on mankind for the state of the world as we see it.
As to judgment...
There will be a single day of wrath from the Lord Jesus at His return.
There will be a white throne judgment at the end of the Millennial Kingdom at which time those who have rejected Christ Jesus (our Creator and Saviour) will be cast into Hell.
Besides those two future events, the Lord's spiritual laws implement blessing and judgment leaving Him ( Holy Spirit) to administer Grace. The laws of man have to have a judicial system to exact payment for violation of such laws. Not so with the spiritual laws of our Lord. They accomplish, on their own, blessing and cursing. This is what is meant in "So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
We hear the Lord saying that His Word accomplishes things, and those things are blessings and cursings depending on how His Word is treated by the hearer.
So, yes, we are in a period of judgment by His laws even while we are still under His offering of Grace. Rejection of Grace ultimately sends a person to the lake of fire. But violation of His spiritual laws brings immediate judgment. And that is what we are seeing around the world. The Lord is not angry. He is still standing at the door and knocking, waiting for each person who hears the invitation to open to Him.
The fact that (it appears) billions of people now hate Him is not going to bring about arbitrary knee-jerk judgment. In the fulness of time Christ Jesus came the first time.
All the prophecies had been made and then Mary said, "be it unto me accprding to your Word." So, Christ came.
In the fulness of time Christ Jesus will return.
All the prophecies must be fulfilled with the Church preparing itself for the bridegroom and He will return.
All prophecies are inspired through the Lord's omniscience and not through His sovereignty.
There is a very telling passage which explaings WHY the Gospel has not been effective in bringing about the Kingdom of the Lord on earth:
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of the Lord; HAVING A FORM OF GODLINESS, BUT DENYING THE POWER THEREOF: FROM SUCH TURN AWAY."
What percentage of people who profess Christ Jesus are filled with the Holy Spirit?????????
When Jesus said 'without me you can do nothing', He was talking about the Holy Spirit. He commanded the disciples to not do anything until they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. Why? Because we can do nothing without Him!
And so the church has worked very hard without Him ( Holy Spirit) proving Christ's point.
If there is to be a change, then nominal Christians must be filled with the Holy Spirit so they have the power and authority working in them to set the captives free and to heal the sick and broken-hearted.
What is going on in the church and in the world is NOT the will of our Lord. So, will we (believers) repent so that we can lead others to repent, so that the Kingdom of Earth will operate as the Kingdom of Heaven? ()
I hope so, I pray so, and I intend to do what I can to make it so. But, the hearts of the people must change from self-gratification to self-sacrifice in order for us to head off the current spiral into oblivion (from which the Lord's return will save mankind).
In a nutshell: The end, as prophesied, was not inevitable because of the prophecy. Rather, Man is determining how he wields his dominion and the prophets reported on it from the omniscience of the Holy Spirit.
Will mankind come to the point of total annihilation as a result of rebellion against the Lord? Yes.
Will it happen sooner or later is the only issue as those dates are not set. 'Where sin abounds the Grace of the Lord much more abounds.'
Blessings in Jesus name!
