Both strait and narrow communicate tightness. The fact that Jesus is the Strait Gate and the Narrow Way tells us that He and He alone is the passage to something.
What is that something that the Strait Gate and Narrow Way lead to?
To answer this question we need to also consider what Jesus meant when He called Himself the Way Truth And Life .
On top of that consideration we must also think about the implications of Jesus' statements:
→ 'If you have seen me, you have seen the Father'
→ 'I and my Father are One'
→ 'He dwells with you, and shall be in you'
We know that Jesus cannot be in us as He has a physical body. So, He must be talking about His Spirit being in us.
The Holy Spirit Of Christ Jesus is the 'something' that Jesus enables us to access.
Taken as a whole, it is clear that Jesus is telling us that 'God' is unapproachable except by coming to 'God' through Him. Furthermore, He is telling us that in coming to Him, Christ Jesus, we not only reach 'God' but find Him, know Him and are filled with Him .
To bring the point of Christianity home is to state that Jesus is God and that there is no other God besides Him.
The implication of this statement is that all other religions are false and all pursuits of God ignoring Christ Jesus are futile.
But for those who are worshipping other gods or following other religions we hear Jesus speak these words:
Come unto me, all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. |
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. |
