There is nothing in man that bends toward justice. Actually, men, left to themselves, wax worse and worse. The only justice that is done, is done by the Lord. Look at the injustices since King spoke these words: Affirmative Action, Welfare Plantations, Abortions, Constitutional Rights violations, etc.

Such a statement ignores the Spiritual Warfare that is waging. Man does not have good in him. He cannot stay loyal to anyone when his own safety is on the line. It is the Lord who enables a person to sacrifice himself for others. Teaching a Kingdom Principle apart from the King as foundation leads to confusion and disappointment.

Here, King borrows a verse from the Bible, the Book of Amos, which he frequently reused in speeches. Did King preach repentance, regeneration and being Spirit Filled? That is the context in which the referenced verse makes any sense.
"We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies." - 1957 speech “Loving your enemies"
In the quote above King says "we must DEVELOP and MAINTAIN". I have never developed and I cannot maintain anything good including forgiveness and love. It is the Holy Spirit in me that manifests goodness, including forgiveness and love.
King became a secularist in practice rather than a spiritualist though he continued to invoke spiritual imagery in his speeches.
The real test of King's success is whether or not black people are better off than they were before he started and if so, was he responsible or others? I maintain that the black community was better off before King. They were more Christian, they were more family centered and they had greater understanding of America as a land of opportunity. They were prouder in the real sense of pride - in their character.
My heart breaks for blacks who still have a slave mentality, who are still self-hating because of their skin color, who are still grasping for freedom when it is already in their hands legally and available INDEED to them in Christ Jesus.
There is a place for the statement of political positions and agendas in the pulpit but it must ALWAYS be in the context of Spiritual Warfare and the polarization of all humanity between those that have received Christ Jesus and those who have rejected Him.
There is no salvation by law or works as is proven by the current state of blacks specifically and our society in general. Secularism is a dead-end. There is salvation only in Christ Jesus. |
