| One of the greatest sources of Confusion to the Jewish people about the Messiah is that they locked in on Him being a descendant of David who would sit on the Throne of David. They expected the Messiah to restore the Kingdom of Israel.
And they were half right.
Yes, Jesus is a descendant of King David and He will sit on the Throne of David in Jerusalem during the Millennial Kingdom.
But Jesus first had to come as the Sacrificial Lamb for the Sins of Israel and the whole World.
The expectation that the Scribes Pharisees And Hypocrites had regarding the Messiah was one of two issues they had with Jesus.
1) He was not Political
2) He came against traditional thinking about God, the Law and Righteousness
As a result, they rejected Him as Messiah.
Here we are 2,000 years later and the Jews (by and large) have not Believed on Jesus Christ as Messiah. In looking at the Scriptures in Messiah it is amazing that they were not looking for the Messiah to be their Spiritual Saviour firstly and their Political Saviour secondly.
And this passage from Isaiah is particularly pertinent:
Who has believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? The Report of Isaiah was mind-boggling and so many of his day did not Believe his Prophecy. Unfortunately, the people who lived during its fulfillment did not Believe the Report either. |
For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. |
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. The Jewish leadership which consisted of ScribesPhariseesHypocrites despised Jesus and plotted against Him from the beginning. Our Lord's heart was broken by rejection He endured. In His brutal death the Jews turned their faces away in a combination of shame and reproach toward Him. |
Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, struck of the Lord, and afflicted. |
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. |
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opens not his mouth. |
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. |
Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he has poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. |
After the Time Of The Gentiles the Holy Spirit will deal with Israel for a short period prior to the Return of Christ Jesus. Many will Receive His as Messiah (). Then the Millennial Kingdom will be established and the prophecies below will be fulfilled. |
