| Contention based on ego and opinion is childish. However, contending for the Truth is necessary as Satan is constantly stealing it or undermining it.
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. - Jud 1:3
Note that Jude says the faith "was once delivered". The implication of that phrase is that it was no longer delivered. What had happened? A watered-down, compromised version of the Gospel was being preached.
Paul also addressed the issue of a compromised Gospel being preached and pronounced a curse on those who preached it.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. - Gal 1:8
Contention from a position of pride serves Satan's purposes while contending for the Purity and Power of the Gospel of Grace through Faith is necessary for the Saving of the Lost, the Healing of the Sick and the Victory of the Saints. |
