Early on a decendent of the tribe of Judah but later a term for Hebrews
Are you puzzled by Jewish identity?   My Lord was born as a Jew.   The greatest teacher of the Christian faith, Paul, was a Jew.   I have nothing against Jews but offer these comments to help make the nonsensical make sense.

What I think is really interesting, is the strong hold that their ethnicity holds on them.   I once thought they were very religious.   But in my encounters with them, I found this not generally to be true.

Tradition?   Yes, I have seen `Fiddler on the Roof`.   But traditions typically change over time.   And tradition is not usually something that causes other peoples to hate you.

It must be something else that holds the Jewish people together (while generating hatred from others), since it is not faith and it is not tradition.
    Is that something genetics?
Is that something an attitude of superiority?
    Is that something racism?
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
We are not all Water Baptized the same and some believers have never been Water Baptized.     However, it is in the putting on of Christ Jesus that we are baptized into Him.

There is no difference in us who are In Christ.

This statement is the broadest most inclusive statement that can be made regarding our Lord`s will for humanity.     We are not one in physical birth but we become one in the New Birth.

As you can see, in true Christianity, racism, sexism and elitism are excluded.

Christians put tradition in its proper place relative to Truth and the expectations of our Lord.

But Jews are not typically Christians (although more and more are turning to Christ).   So, they are not liberated by the wonderful Truth of .

What then is the source of their cohesiveness as a people?
That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

And in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed my voice.

The above verses spell out the promise that the Lord made to Abraham, which his descendants have taken to mean that they are the `chosen people`.   And their take on the promise came from a typically human Carnal Minded perspective.   They figured the Lord was talking about physical DNA.   Regardless of the denials, such a concept is elitist in nature providing a basis for generational racism.
For you are an holy people unto the Lord, your Lord: the Lord, your Lord has chosen you to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

For you are an holy people unto the Lord, your Lord, and the Lord has chosen you to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

How can you read the above verses as a Jew and not feel superior?
Again, the problem with the Jewish take on what the Lord said to Abraham and what Moses said to the Jews of his day is that they assumed it was about genetics.   It wasn`t about genetics, it was about the spiritual DNA of faith in the Lord.

Jesus is the fulfilment of the promise to Abraham.   He is the single seed that was planted in the earth by which all who come to Him may experience Eternal, Abundant Life.

There is nothing antisemitic about this article unless one believes that the quality of one`s physical DNA determines acceptability by the Lord.

I pray that believers will spread the Gospel to every creature as our Lord commanded.   This includes the Jews who are deceived in thinking they are literally chosen because of their DNA.
In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of the Lord, should shine unto them.
Satan hates humanity and so deceives as many as possible so they never enter into the light of Grace by Christ Jesus.

Some reading this might speculate that I am espousing Replacement Theology.   The Lord does not change.   He doesn`t replace because something is not working.   The Lord knew from the beginning, before the foundation of the world was laid that Christ Jesus must come and pay for the sins of the world.

No, there is no replacement here.   Abraham was called as many others have been called to be the instrument that the Lord uses to accomplish His purposes.   It just so happens in this case that there were to be 41 generations involved in the promise, all coming through Abraham.

If there is any doubt as to the `quality` of the DNA involved, take a look at some of the `characters` in our Lord`s lineage.   No, the promise was not to the flesh by DNA, but to the spirit by faith.   It was not to a single ethnic group; it was to all mankind.

In conclusion, a Jew apart from Christ Jesus is no more special than a gentile apart from Christ Jesus.   Their faith in the flesh based on a misunderstanding of their heritage is responsible for who they are as a people.

As a person thinks in their heart, so are they.
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of the Lord.
We are children of Abraham by faith through which we have been Born Again of the Holy Spirit.

Most Jews are not orthodox but rather worshippers of tradition.   Their traditions of practical wisdom along with their struggles are instilled in them as children and are passed down to their children which their children pass down to theirs.

Compare that to gentiles who raise their children to believe in ghosts, magic, princes and princesses and fairy tales of all sorts not the least of which is true love and living happily ever after.

The Jews understand secular life.   Most gentiles never get it until it is too late.

Paul Simon (a Jew) said it: " Teach your children well"

Now, if Jews would only receive their Messiah, Jesus!
