The apostle John recognized the Lord Jesus Christ in a way that the other disciples did not. As a matter of fact, Judas Iscariot did not recognize Jesus at all. Even Peter, after confessing the partial Truth about Jesus , ended up showing his unbelief in the Lord Jesus Christ as Mighty God .
So, it is no wonder that through the 2000 years since Jesus manifested `God` to us that believers have waffled about `God` and Jesus.
Specifically, the doctrine of the Trinity has provided the waffling space that most Christians have wandered in.
The Doctrine Of Christ is very specific, identifying the Lord Jesus Christ as the One and Only manifestation of `God`.
To understand the New Testament verses listed below which speak to the Lordship of Christ Jesus we must absorb the full implication of Isaiah`s prophecy regarding the Messiah.
Now we are in position to receive the revelation of Christ Jesus as the fulfillment of that prophecy.
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him farewell: |
For he that bids him farewell is partaker of his evil deeds. |
I can imagine the pressure that the original Jewish Christians had upon them. As a matter of fact, the book of Hebrews represents Paul`s attempt to keep the Doctrine Of Christ pure.
Essentially, the synagogue has always been the center of Jewish life. Since the hierarchy of Judaism categorically rejected Christ Jesus as Messiah, much less as I Am, they would not let the name of Jesus be used in the synagogues.
So, what do people do when they are put under pressure? They compromise.
True Christians know that Jesus is the physical incarnation of YHVH. The term `Son` with respect to Jesus only indicates that His physical birth was begotten by His Holy Spirit. It in no way indicates subordination to the Father or any other being.
Because Jesus manifested His Holy Spirit Father perfectly, His body was glorified and embued with all the power of His Holy Spirit Father.
Can I call Jesus, YHVH, and that be just as good as calling Him Jesus? No. See the following verses which attest to this answer:
So, talking to God or YHVH or Jehovah or Elohim or Adonai or any other `name` is unacceptable. He only hears us when we come to Him in His name, Jesus.
Back to the Jewish believers who wanted to stay in the synagogue. They compromised and stopped using the name of Jesus and instead used the more palatable name `YHVH` as the rabbis and priests did.
After all, YHVH is the Father of Jesus they argued or rather Satan argued to them. Accordingly, the Jewish Christians began to believe in Father and Son as separate persons.
But what about the Holy Spirit? They were baptized with the Holy Spirit and knew that He was the Spirit Of God. So, there must be three persons, or so they reasoned.
Not acknowledging Jesus as the One and Only True And Living God enabled the `believing` Jews to stay in the synagogues (not be ostracized).
And then there were the gentiles who had long histories of polytheism. To convince them that there was only One God was virtually impossible.
So, teaching them that God was multiple persons sort of fit into their pagan history.
Not having been there and not being privy to the actual thoughts of the people involved I can only speak to these things from spiritual insight.
Regardless of the details of how things came about, the bottom line is that there are very few people who are willing to say unabashedly that Jesus is the Creator of all things, the Almighty God, the only Savior, the only Righteous Judge, the only Lord and King of all.
But such as do, enter into fellowship with the Holy Spirit Father of Christ Jesus and become One with Him.
