Take heed therefore how you hear: for whoever has, to him shall be given; and whoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have. - Luk 8:18
This verse implies that there are different ways of hearing - at least two.
1. when hearing is not followed by doing
2. when hearing is followed by doing.
The following verses speak to the implications of both types of hearing:
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; - Joh 8:31
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you. - Joh 15:7
But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. - Jam 1:22
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and straightway forgets what manner of man he was. - Jam 1:23,24
But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. - Jam 1:25
So here are the results of hearing and not doing the Word:
1. We are not Disciples of Christ though we may be Believers
2. Our Prayers are ineffective
3. We are Deceived
And here are the results of hearing and doing the Word.
1. We are Disciples of Christ indeed
2. Our Prayers are effectual
3. We abide in Truth
We must have a LoveOfTheTruth to be able to Hear correctly so that the error introduced by tradition and false teaching can be overcome. If we do, we can turn loose that which we accepted in Ignorance,
Those who have not a LoveOfTheTruth will consistently hear the Truth and discard it, not appreciating its value. The result is that AbundantLife never materializes.
While those who have a LoveOfTheTruth will experience the AbundantLife that Christ Jesus has purchased for us.
Are you hearing, receiving, and doing the Word?
