There was an episode of Seinfeld where Frank reacted to every tense situation with shouts of "serenity now!".
This was his way of pushing back on the cause of the tension and clearing some space for Peace.
Now, such techniques may be helpful for defusing tension but there is a better way.
Jesus has given us His Peace.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. - Joh 14:27
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. - Phi 4:7
Now this is great news! But, how is this kind of Peace deployed? Do we simply react to tense situations by shouting "peace now"?
Of course not. The Peace that Jesus gives comes by His HolySpirit, It is one of the Fruit of the Spirit.
But, how do we deploy the Peace that comes by the HolySpirit?
That Peace is a state of being. It is a place where we exist.
But where do we exist?
We exist in Christ.
We exist in the HolySpirit!
So, we come back to the importance of realizing who this new creature is.
We cannot experience Peace in the Flesh.
We must Live in the Spirit and Walk in the Spirit.
The Flesh is subject to Physical circumstances for which our 5 senses give feedback to our Mind which in turn feeds our Emotions.
The Natural, Carnal Mind will have a knee-jerk reaction to negative sensory information.
That is a fact.
This is why we are instructed to be Transformed by the Renewing of our Minds into the Mind of Christ.
This Transformation occurs with our will by the Word and the HolySpirit.
When we have the Mind of Christ we can Prove the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. Rom 12:2
This means we will see it played out in our Lives.
If we do not allow our Minds to be Transformed we will not experience His Peace.
The conclusion is that Christ's Peace is a state of existence which comes only through His Spirit. Any other peace is fleeting.
Enter into the Rest that Christ provides and experience SerenityNow and forever.
