We are very familiar with the kind of Compass that points to the magnetic north pole. That instrument has long been used in navigation.
The thing that makes the Compass work is the fact that the magnetic north pole doesn't move. It is dependable.
A Moral Compass is a set of beliefs or values that determine a person's ethical behavior.
In the 1960's the concept of Moral Relativity became popular. Situational ethics followed from that concept.
The essence of the philosophy is that there is no absolute authority on moral issues.
In hindsight it is clear that this was nothing more than a rejection of God .
Without a " Spiritual magnetic north pole" the American culture has shifted from order, based on the God's definition of morality, to chaos, based on the selfish, depraved heart of man.
This is why we see "immorality-creep" - gradual, persistent lowering of standards of behaviour, acceptance of what used to be unacceptable and the normalization of abnormality.
The Moral Compass for many has as its " Spiritual magnetic north pole":
- what is popular
- what feels good
- what seems right
- what is politically correct
The Compass that a person uses determines where the end up regardless of their intended destination,
An individual's navigation Compass that has a stuck or de-magnetixed pointer will lead them astray,
An individual's Moral Compass not pointing to the Truth will lead them astray.
To Repent is to drop the Moral Compass a peron has and pick up the Moral Compass of Christ Jesus who is the Truth , the incarnate Word of God .
Jesus said: "Except you Repent you will all likewise Perish ".
Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
