The Religious leaders thought they could define acceptance by God . Jesus tells them that God sets the plant that will stand. All others will be uprooted. This speaks to the fact that the NewBirth is a must. It is how God plants us. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if you from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. - Mat 18:35 God is Just and expects us to be so. He is Merciful and expects us to be so. While the things that Jesus did are often emphasized with some consideration given to what He said, there is not so much attention to what Christ had in mind after we were Redeemed by His Blood and BornAgain of His Spirit . Without understanding Christ's expectation for us we are not able to understand what He said and did and why He said and did it. Simply put, Christ Jesus is the FirstFruit of many SonsOfGod . His expectation for us is that we be like Him. 1Jn 3:2 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, - Heb 6:4 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, says he, that you make all things according to the pattern showed to you in the mount. - Heb 8:5 The Levitical priesthood was to teach us the rigor of God's requirement for Sin to be Forgiven . It was a teacher and nothing more. It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. - Heb 9:23 The patterns were purified by pattern sacrifices - animals. But the True Heavenly things were purified by Him that came from Heaven and returned to Heaven . But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he has prepared for them a city. - Heb 11:16 But you are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, - Heb 12:22 |
