Driving is not just a set of basic skills for operating a motor vehicle. It is a Privilege which carries with it Responsibility .
With the advancement of Technology and population growth there is a greater need than ever to recognize the potential for harm when Driving .
Most people are aware that Accidents are costly from a Monetary and Health standpoint.
However, Technology , Insurance and advances in Medical Science have served to soften the blow when Accidents do occur. These services along with an increase in self-centeredness have led Drivers toward Carelessness .
Carelessness is not Courtesy .
It seems that severe penalties will need to be levied for Careless and Reckless Driving resulting in bodily harm when caused by a driver using a Phone .
It is actually more dangerous to be using a Phone while Driving than it is to be mildly intoxicated. At least the mildly intoxicated have their eyes on the road which is not the case for drivers fumbling with Phones.
A Phone driver makes a conscious decision to prioritize their convenience over the safety of others on the road. Therefore, any injury resulting to others should be considered voluntary.
There should be no consideration of Driving records. Rather mandatory jail time should be the sentence for such crimes.
