| Why is a Word from the Holy Spirit a burden? → it must be delivered as received
→ the speaker must yield completely to it
→ it may not be received well
The ego and pride of every man is put to the test as a minister of the Lord Jesus Christ. In that role it is incumbent upon him to be submissive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
When Old Testament prophets would use the phrase, The Burden Of The Lord, it was to inform their audience that they were now speaking words they had received directly from the Lord.
Is not my word like as a fire? says the Lord; and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? |
Thus shall you say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What has the Lord answered? and, What has the Lord spoken? |
Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence: |
And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten. |
Jesus told us to bring our burdens to Him, to take up His light burden and His easy yoke . He told His followers: "take up Your Cross and follow Me" . |
