Do we believe in One God or three gods? The Jews and later the Muslims emphasize the Oneness of God while Christians often find themselves talking about three different gods - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There really is no need for the concept of the trinity which, despite circular arguments to the contrary, really speaks to there being three gods.
We were made in the image of God.
And the Lord said, I will make man in my image, after my likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. |
We are spirit, soul and body.
Ergo, God must be a Spirit with a Soul and a Body.
We know that God is Spirit.
We know that the Holy Spirit is the Father of Jesus.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, you son of David, fear not to take unto you Mary your wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. |
We know that Jesus is God`s Son.
We know that Jesus is the body of God.
We know that Jesus is the image of the Father.
Jesus says unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how say you then, Show us the Father? |
So, Jesus is the Body and Soul of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus instructed us to refer to God as Father. This is to define the relationship we have with Him - father and child. However, all power in heaven and in earth has been given to the Son (Jesus). If this be the case, then Jesus must be God. Jesus told us He had to go away so that the Father would send us another Comforter who He said is the Spirit Of Truth. So, Jesus (God) returned to the Spirit Realm and sent us the Holy Spirit (Father) to dwell in us.
Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Majesty (Holy Spirit). Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the Father (Holy Spirit). When we receive Jesus we receive the Holy Spirit.
Strict trinitarianism is polytheism. There are not 3 divine beings who agree. There is 1 divine being, Holy Spirit, who manifests Himself in the body and soul of Jesus.
Michaels Servetus said this: The incomprehensible God is known through Christ, by faith, rather than by philosophical speculations. He manifests God to us, being the expression of His very being, and through him alone, God can be known. The scriptures reveal Him to those who have faith; and thus we come to know the Holy Spirit as the Divine impulse within us.
For this (modality) teaching along with condemnation of infant baptism and denial of predestination Servetus was burned at the stake under the direction of John Calvin.
I believe in the modality of one God. We know that God is a Spirit. We know that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. What about the Son? He is the physical embodiment of the Spirit of God. So, the One God is a Spirit who in the Son has a Soul and a physical Body - just like we do. After all, we were made in His image and, in the New Birth, we are His offspring. Any other conception of God is fraught with contradictions about the oneness of God. Even the word `trinity` implies 3. He is One.
Let us stop talking about God as three persons.
The Jews rejected Christianity because they were offended when Jesus identified Himself with the God.
Mohammad knew better in his sick mind than to think God is triplicate and so created his own religion.
I think that the reason the church is weak today is that we talk about God as if He is someone else besides the Holy Spirit, that there will be three beings in Heaven that we gaze upon and worship.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. |
There is only One God and He is a Spirit and Jesus is the express image of that Spirit having a Body and demonstrating a Soul that relates to His greatest creation - mankind.
When Jesus said `the Faither is greater than I`, he was talking about the Holy Spirit who fills the Universe. The body of God (Jesus) is finite so that we can comprehend it.
I do not think I will see three people in Heaven to Worship (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). I believe I will only see the Son (Jesus) but be overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit who permeates everything and everyone there.
The early church preached Jesus crucified and raised from the dead as the Gospel that brings Salvation. The Holy Spirit blessed them because they glorifed the Son, Jesus Christ as God.
We need to do the same.
The Father (Holy Spirit) is here inside of us. The Son, Jesus Christ (God in flesh) will soon return and make the kingdoms of this Earth, the Kingdom of God.
