Title: Two very common food seasonings

We love to eat.   But food with no seasoning is only good when we are starving.

In order for us to enjoy the food experience it must be seasoned.

Salt brings out the flavor that is in the food.

Pepper adds flavor to the food.

When food is appropriately seasoned it adds to the pleasure of eating and so to our pleasure in life.   ( Just talking about food makes us hungry).

In some sense the Word is salt.   It reveals the Truth to us, bringing out the goodness of who we are in the New Birth.

In some sense the Holy Spirit is pepper, adding to our New Spirit being life, intimacy and power
intimacy in that Christ is in us
the supernatural power of Christ to do all things.

You can eat food without seasoning (I don't recommend it).

You can live physical life without the Word and Holy Spirit.   Such a life will be, as Solomon put it, vanity.   It will be filled with ups and downs ending up in death.
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

Whereas the life that Christ Jesus has provided for us is both eternal and abundant.   This life comes by His Holy Spirit in us.
The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The thief is Satan who is the inspiration for all the evil in the world.
Whereas the 'I' is Jesus who offers us Eternal Life and Abundant Life.

This verse is a powerful statement contrasting the nature of the enemy with the nature of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Note that the enemy takes by force what is ours, while we must appropriate by faith what is ours in Christ Jesus.
The appropriation is not a 'one and done' thing.     Rather, it is an ongoing process throughout our lives on this earth.

Jesus has given us His life in giving us His Holy Spirit who is in every believer who has asked to be filled.     We aught to invoke His life into every aspect of our walk in the earth.

Draw near to the Lord, and he will draw near to you.     Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded.
It is the Lord who draws us to Him by His Holy Spirit but that is just a tug.     We must respect His wooing by turning to Him and desiring Him.

Sinners can only cleanse their hands by repenting, turning to Christ and receiving His cleansing blood,

Christians can only purify their hearts by deciding to believe the Word Of The Lord exclusively.     Otherwise, they are Double Minded which yields confusion, fear, unbelief and weakness.

One last point.   I don't know anyone who doesn't like salt in their food.   However, there are a lot of people who don't like pepper.

So it is in Christianity.   We all come to the Lord by receiving the salt of His Word.   Unfortunately, many stop there and never try His pepper, His Holy Spirit.   They never get quickened by His Holy Spirit and so never experience His zeal, His energy, His power.   They never really tap into what it means to have eternal, abundant life in them.

Don't be that guy.   Ask the Lord for His Holy Spirit to manifest in and through you.   He will give Himself to you unreservedly.
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your Heavenly Father give Himself to them that ask him?
The Holy Spirit is the Gift Of Christ.

To receive Christ is to receive His Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is so much more loving and giving than the best of parents.     He will give Himself to anyone who asks Him.

The reality is that many believers do not want to manifest as Sons Of The Holy Spirit.     They are content to just miss hell and enter heaven when they die.

But without the baptism of the Holy Spirit believers are ineffective as witnessed by the decline of the church and the secularization of society.

Jesus commanded the disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they received the power of the Holy Spirit.     Only then were they to go forth preaching the Gospel of the kingdom.

If the disciples who walked with Jesus needed Spirit Baptism, on what basis do believers think that they do not?
