God simply means 'deity'. It is not the name of deity.
To empower the term 'god' as a proper name is not a trivial matter. When a proper name is assigned a being, that name receives honour and, in the case of deity, it receives worship.
And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. |
And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. |
We see in the above verses that 'deity' has chosen His own name. That name is Jesus. And in that day you shall ask me nothing. Truly, truly, I say unto you, Whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. |
In the above verses we hear Jesus telling us that His name is necessary for connecting to His Holy Spirit who is the Father. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. |
In the above verses we see that there is no other being holding power in heaven or earth other than Jesus Himself, and that salvation is available only through His name, Jesus. In the above verse we see that Jesus is Lord and that every person will eventually acknowledge that fact. This acknowledgment of Jesus as Lord glorifies His Holy Spirit.
It is bad practice at the least and idolatrous at the worst to give glory to the proper name, 'God', when we now know who the Creator is - Christ Jesus.
Most trinitarians, either intentionally or unintentionally, worship 'God' from time to time as if he exists apart from Christ Jesus.
Likewise, most trinitarians relegate the Holy Spirit to the third person in the godhead when, in fact, the Holy Spirit is the one and only Spirit Of God. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit Of Christ which is the essence of Christ Jesus. He is what makes the body and soul of Christ Jesus deity.
It may be difficult for trinitarians to give up their three-gods-in-one concept but the truth is that the Lord is One Lord. He is Spirit Soul And Body just as we who were created in His image are Spirit Soul And Body.
Our Creator is the Holy Spirit who expresses His soul in and through the Words of Christ Jesus and manifests Himself physically in the body of Christ Jesus. Who is like unto the Lord, our Lord, who dwells on high, |
You shall have no other gods before me. |
The above statements are speaking of pre-incarnate Christ Jesus. Jesus was telling us that He is the One Lord and He must be worshipped above all other gods.
Do not elevate 'God' above Jesus. Do not even think about a 'God' other than Jesus. To do so is idolatrous - a violation of the first commandment. |
